Gallery Statement
Timeless Thrills Gallery is honored to present Western Language, a new body of work by Sacramento-based artist Cheyenne Randall.
Best known for his viral Shopped Tattoos series and his ongoing wheatpaste project Pasting the West, Randall has long explored the intersections of Native identity, pop culture, and Americana. With Western Language, he turns inward, offering a deeply personal collection born out of lived experiences in addiction, recovery, and renewal.
For decades, Randall worked across mediums—from digital collage to large-scale mural work—often with immediacy and impermanence. This exhibition marks his deliberate return to brush and canvas, created in the solitude of his garage studio, away from screens and algorithms. The result is a layered meditation on nostalgia, resilience, and Native pride.
At once intimate and expansive, Western Language honors Randall’s lineage as an enrolled member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe while engaging in a broader conversation about what Contemporary Native Art can be. The work is a “shellacked snapshot of Americana,” in the artist’s words, one that invites viewers to reconsider the symbols, mythologies, and visual languages that shape culture today.

Artist Statement
Western Language is a "hello" from a place in my life that was formed and affected by a time of running; a world of old nostalgic dreams and a need for instant gratification. For too many years I turned my back on the brush and canvas playing with pixels and creating through a screen. Alas, I finally have the patience to sit and paint. Paint what I see and paint what I remember. Since 2020, and the collective implosion of culture, I found my peace in a garage studio removed from my phone, likes, comments and algorithms where Western Language has taken form.
This body of work is my shellacked snapshot of Americana and of my native pride. My wish is for viewers and collectors to walk away with a new sense of what Contemporary Native Art is.
