Timeless Thrills Gallery Presents

Western Language: A Solo Exhibition by Cheyenne Randall

Sacramento, CA — This Fall, Timeless Thrills Gallery is proud to present Western Language, a solo exhibition by Sacramento-based artist Cheyenne Randall. The exhibition marks a pivotal moment in Randall’s career, unveiling a new body of work that departs from the digital medium that first brought him international recognition and returns to the canvas with urgency, honesty, and pride.

Randall, an enrolled member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe, has worked across mediums for more than three decades. Largely self-taught—and famously twice rejected from art school—he is best known for his viral Shopped Tattoos series, which reimagined iconic cultural figures adorned with full-body tattoos, as well as Pasting the West, his ongoing wheat-paste project bringing large-scale ephemeral murals to abandoned landscapes across the American West. His practice, rooted in both Native identity and pop culture, has redefined the expectations of what contemporary Native art can be.

With Western Language, Randall brings viewers into a more intimate and tactile space. Born from his own lived experiences of addiction, recovery, and renewal, this collection represents his return to brush and canvas after years of working primarily through a screen. Developed in the solitude of his garage studio, away from phones, likes, and algorithms, Western Language reflects both the quiet nostalgia of Americana and the unyielding strength of Native pride.

“This body of work is my shellacked snapshot of Americana and of my native pride,” says Randall. “My wish is for viewers and collectors to walk away with a new sense of what Contemporary Native Art is.”

Visually layered and symbolically rich, the exhibition straddles dualities: permanence and ephemerality, tradition and reinvention, reverence and rebellion. Each piece is a record of Randall’s patience, a reclaiming of his artistic voice, and a continuation of the dialogue between memory, culture, and the self.
