Oil on canvas
37’ x 41”

I wanted to paint “Sitting Crow” Kangi Iyotanke, a Blackfoot Lakota leader, as depicted in the photo by Alexander Gardner from 1872 as accurately as possible. However, I wanted to include the rainbow in his skin. Representing the spectrum of colors that only we as mammals can pick up with our eyes, conversely leaving us limited in seeing a grander picture that exists all around us at all times.
