SACRAMENTO, CA — Timeless Thrills and Homesick are pleased to present I Think of You, a group exhibition curated by Los Angeles-based artist and photographer Niko Lara. Bringing together over 20 artists from Northern and Southern California, the exhibition features photography, painting, illustration, and mixed media, exploring themes of longing, connection, and the experience of missing someone or something.
Born in San Jose and raised in Sacramento, Lara relocated to Los Angeles in his mid-twenties, where he found himself navigating the challenges of establishing a new sense of home. Through his involvement in the Los Angeles art community, he began developing meaningful relationships and discovering a sense of belonging, while gaining a deeper appreciation for the people, places, and experiences he had left behind in Sacramento.
Drawing from these experiences, I Think of You brings together artists Lara has encountered, collaborated with, or been inspired by throughout his creative journey. With participating artists drawn from both Northern and Southern California, the exhibition reflects the creative relationships Lara has developed between the two regions.
For the exhibition, Lara invited each artist to interpret feelings of longing and absence through their preferred medium. The resulting collection of works offers a range of personal perspectives on memory, relationships, and the people, places, and experiences that remain meaningful to us, even when separated by time or distance.
ABOUT THE CURATOR
Niko Lara is a photographer, artist, and independent curator based in Los Angeles. Born in San Jose, California, and raised in Sacramento, Lara began photographing nearly 15 years ago, initially documenting his friends and the local skateboarding community.
After relocating to Los Angeles, Lara founded Homesick, an independent art collective established to bring artists and creative communities together. Inspired by the collaborative energy of group exhibitions throughout the San Fernando Valley, Lara began organizing his own exhibitions as a way to build connections and create a sense of community in an unfamiliar city.
Through his photography, curatorial projects, and work with Homesick, Lara continues to emphasize the importance of physical media, shared creative spaces, and opportunities for people to connect through art.
