STUDIO VISIT WITH ENCHI WANG PART II

Art and Design Photography Studio Visits

A lot has changed since our first visit with Enchi Wang...

The work has now left the familiarity of her home studio and made its way into Timeless Thrills, where Presence is beginning to take shape. There’s something special about this stage of an exhibition. Paintings that have lived with an artist for months—or in some cases years—finally begin to take on a new life once they’re brought together in the gallery. Seeing Wang's oil paintings against the gallery’s bright white walls has only reinforced the strength of the work. Even within our intimate 800-square-foot space, the paintings immediately command attention and begin to establish the atmosphere of the exhibition.

What has been even more exciting, however, has been watching the exhibition grow beyond the walls...

Since moving into the gallery, Wang has spent each day building the centerpiece of Presence: a large-scale installation that could only be realized within the exhibition space itself. Rather than arriving fully assembled, it has taken shape piece by piece, with an assortment of raw, natural materials gradually becoming something entirely new. Watching those individual elements come together into a cohesive structure has been one of the most rewarding parts of this process.

One of the things I’ve appreciated most is seeing Wang commit herself fully to the installation. Every day has been spent building, refining, adjusting, and responding to the space as the work continues to evolve. It’s clear that she isn’t simply placing artwork into a gallery—she’s carefully shaping an environment that reflects both the ideas behind Presence and where she finds herself today as an artist.

Over the coming days, we’ll begin installing the paintings while Wang completes the final stages of the installation. Every decision continues to bring Presence closer to the experience she first imagined, and it’s exciting to watch that vision become reality.

When the doors open this Saturday, visitors won’t simply encounter a finished exhibition—they’ll step into a space that has been built, tested, reconsidered, and carefully shaped over the past several weeks. That process has become inseparable from the exhibition itself, and I think it will make Presence all the more meaningful to experience in person.

We look forward to welcoming everyone this Saturday.
