IN THE STUDIO WITH ALEXI G ORDUÑO

Art and Design Photography Studio Visits

We recently had the chance to catch up with Alexi G Orduño at his studio space in Sacramento, CA.  Alexi is the featured resident artist at Espinas, a floral and tattoo shop at the corner of Broadway and Stockton blvd owned by artist, florist, and creative, Serena Madrigal.

Alexi has been working at a fast pace lately. He is currently producing a series of acrylic paintings featuring jaguars as the central subject. Each piece explores a different pose and composition, placing the animals among natural and industrial elements such as cinder blocks and barbed wire.

Alongside the jaguar series, Alexi has also begun developing a new body of work centered on rattlesnakes. Much like the jaguar paintings, these works place their subjects within carefully constructed environments, combining the snakes with found objects and everyday materials like discarded tires and other elements from the landscape.

In addition to these newer bodies of work, Alexi shared that several large-scale paintings are also in progress. He described them as carrying the same spirit and energy as Parque with Loved Ones, with richly layered scenes that invite viewers to explore every corner of the composition.

It’s an exciting direction, and one that feels true to his practice. Alexi has a remarkable ability to capture everyday moments—families gathering, friends spending time together, children at play, and quiet interactions—and weave them into a single, vibrant painting. These larger works reward a slower look, revealing new details each time you return to them.

More than anything, Alexi seems incredibly focused right now. With several exciting opportunities on the horizon—including curating an exhibition at Demo later this year and plans to be included in Timeless Thrills’ final exhibition of the year, curated by Niko Lara—it’s clear he’s building momentum and fully committed to his studio practice.

We’re especially excited to share that Timeless Thrills will be hosting Alexi’s first solo exhibition with us in the summer of 2027.

In the meantime, be sure to keep up with Alexi’s latest work and upcoming exhibitions by following him on Instagram.
